Good Friday Easter Sunday; Hidden Meanings

Good Friday. Why is it so good?  I have wondered … I mean, the "Son of God" is crucified on the cross, which seems like Bad Friday to me. But Easter will come in three days … the Movable Feast. Those three days are dark, where the “Son of God” is dead. Then the resurrection; brought back to life by Divine Mystery, the "Son of God" shines bright, reborn ... promising everlasting life ... eternal life. Witnessed by three Marys; Mother, Magdalene & a third Mary.

We all know this biblical story, but what is the symbolic message hidden in plain sight beyond the historical Jesus? What spiritual guidance and teaching does this allegory point us to?  What is this story telling us about our place in the great celestial cycles of time?

The ancients celebrated the “Sun of God” who is born/reborn on December 25 after three days of darkness/death, which starts at Winter Solstice on December 21. Solstice means “Sun stands still” because the Sun’s daily 1° progression across the horizon stands still (visually from our vantage point on Earth) for three days before it reverses its journey and returns to its luminous apex at Summer Solstice.

The resurrection of the “Sun of God” who died on the cross after three days of darkness/death was celebrated at Spring Equinox in the ancient world. Why? Because the the day and night are equal then, the shadow of darkness; ignorance & evil and illumination; wisdom & love, are on equal footing… But soon after the light vanquishes the darkness, and life overcomes death after Spring Equinox in life’s epic struggle between goodness/light/life & evil/darkness/death.

The calendar date of Easter is calculated each year from the first Sunday after the first full Moon after Spring Equinox … and since the date changes, it’s called the movable feast.

What is the cross? The ancient symbol for the celestial calendar was the crossed circle. It symbolized the yearly events of the vertical division of circle; Winter-Summer Solstice & the horizontal division; Fall & Spring Equinoxes. It is little wonder that hot cross buns have been a staple at the “Movable Feast”  of the death and rebirth of the “Sun/Son of God” since ancient times.

Why three Marys? The symbolism of the Moon is three-in-one; the Goddess in her three phases; maiden, mother & crone. This ancient trinity explained: New Moon/waxing Moon=Maiden, Full Moon=Mother, & waning/dying Moon=old woman or Crone.

The etymology of Mary is “mare” in Latin, meaning sea; ocean. Mother Mary wares a blue robe symbolizing her place as the “Goddess of Water”. All water such as ocean tides, soil moisture and mensal blood is ruled by the Moon.

The Moon attended to the resurrection of the Sun after his death on the cross of time.

Is there a metaphysical message? Perhaps this ancient allegory points to the fleeting nature of physical existence and the eternal nature of the soul.

We are here for a short time, for how many Good Fridays is not known … but an expired date on our body does exist. Will you be resurrected?

Yes. This powerful message tells us that. Yes, you are eternal. Yes, you are everlasting. Yes, you are like the “Son/Sun of God”— in fact the great sages would say that’s exactly what you are … a child of the Creator.

Happy Good Friday.

Blessings,

Jane
